Katie Porter is lighting a candle. She is investigating how light can be made using movement and chemical energy. Sara is recording what she observed as her partner lights a candle.

I put "Instant Light" into a jar and added some water. When I added some water the substance started glowing. From this experiment I learned there are many ways of making light. Michelle looking at the "Instant Light". We made the substance glow by adding water. In this experiment chemical energy is being converted into light energy.

 

 

 
 Jasmine and Michelle looking through a dark tube trying to see each others face. This experiment showed that light only travels in straight lines.
 In this experiment we discovered that light travels in straight lines. We lined up cards with holes in them and tried looking through the holes. The piece of string had to be straight before we could see through the holes.

 

 
 Sara is looking down a tube to see if she can see the light her partner is shining at the other end. The purpose of this experiment was to find out how light travels.. We discovered we had to straighten the tube because light travels in a straight beam.

 

Omer is investigating how light travels through milky water.
